On July 5th, 2014 the 2nd round of Quarter Finals in the 2014 World Cup will take place. The previous day will be Brazil vs Colombia and France vs Germany.
The first game on July 5th will be Netherlands vs Costa Rica. The winner of that match up will take on the winner of Argentina vs Belgium.
Holland were one of the best teams in the group stages. They managed to quite easily defeat both Chile and Spain, and then faced a lively Australia team who they dispatched very well. Their match against Mexico was a bit more surprising though. After a goalless first half, Mexico took the lead within just 3 minutes. Holland didn’t show up for that game really – and got very lucky to steal it with two late goals – one being that injury time goal.
Despite being down for most of the second half, Holland never pushed the game as expected and they got lucky to win. That sort of performance makes me highly confident that the Netherlands will NOT be holding the World Cup aloft in a weeks time.
However they have a great chance of making the semi-finals at least, when they take on Costa Rica in this quarter final matchup. Costa Rica are quite lucky to be here. I don’t want to disrespect them at all, but they beat a Suarez-less Uruguay, then beat a flat Italian team and were lucky to draw against England. Greece were all over them as well in the knockout rounds, even before the red card.

As expected, Holland are heavy favourites although what’s interesting is the odds on qualifying. Factor in extra time and penalties and Holland are 1/5 which is a massive price. Is there really a 1/3 chance that this game goes to extra time? Especially with the draw being 10/3 odds?
Holland 1/2 isn’t the worst bet to make. It’s the sort of bet where betting 2 units to win 1 unit is fine. It’s a solid price, and if you normally bet $100 you’d bet $200 to win that $100. Fair deal.

Based on Holland winning, it’s a case of looking at the handicaps. Holland are 13/10 which unfortunately isn’t really the best price – but the Dutch have shown they can score goals.
